WALTHAM, Mass.–The Mass Mobility Hub and their partner, BXP, are welcoming a pioneering startup to the Hub on August 13 whose technology promises to slash the carbon emissions and energy use associated with installing asphalt by 25 percent or more.

Uberbinder has developed a green alternative to the petroleum byproducts that normally are used as binders in asphalt pavement. On the 13th, Uberbinder and their local partner, Cassidy Paving of Haverhill, will be completing North America's first-ever installation of a test patch of asphalt using Uberbinder in a parking lot in the Mobility Hub research zone within BXP's Waltham portfolio.

"We have tremendous opportunities to reduce the carbon impact of the transportation sector, not only from eliminating vehicle emissions over time but by taking on the enormous greenhouse gas impacts of constructing, maintaining, and renovating transportation infrastructure," said Mass Mobility Hub Executive Director Jamey Tesler. "We're thrilled that Uberbinder recognized what a uniquely supportive, can-do partner network the Mass Mobility Hub continues to create and wanted to join in the cleaner, more efficient transportation future we're building here."

Uberbinder is a first-of-its-kind sustainable asphalt binder technology that is engineered from globally abundant sulfur and regenerative biomaterials, through a patented chemical process known as "inverse vulcanization." The product can be mixed with fresh aggregates to create new street and highway paving or with up to 100 percent reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) to further reduce energy and material consumption.

Uberbinder was recently selected from among 4,600 applicants as a finalist and "Emerging Pioneer" by Hello Tomorrow's Global Deep Tech Competition. The holding company for Uberbinder is a Public Benefit Corporation registered in Delaware, and its operating headquarters are in Oxford, U.K.

"As we've looked around North America for a place to scale up our technology and awareness of Uberbinder in the infrastructure sector, the Mass Mobility Hub stood out as a vibrant hub of innovation that's totally aligned with Uberbinder's vision for cleaner, more sustainable transportation," said Uberbinder Co-Founder and CEO Jett Yang. "We're so excited to join this ecosystem of corporate advocates, startups, academic researchers, investors, non-profits, and public-sector partners to launch this next chapter for Uberbinder and decarbonizing the world's transportation infrastructure."
